Based on the provided information, a quote will be prepared and sent via email. Once you agree with the quote, you can confirm it via email. After your confirmation, an appointment will be scheduled for the delivery of the object to the restoration studio.
The treatment of your object proceeds as follows:
Consultation: An initial meeting is scheduled to assess the object and discuss your expectations. This helps to determine the needs and the best treatment method for your object. A consultation is free and completely non-binding.
Quote and agreement: You will receive a detailed quote specifying the estimated hours and rates. After approval of the quote, an agreement will be drafted and signed.
Execution: The agreed-upon work will be carried out according to the specified details. You will be kept informed of the progress and any findings during the process.
Delivery: After the work is completed, the object will be returned, or a collection time will be arranged.
Invoicing: After delivery, you will receive an invoice that must be paid within the agreed period.
The cost of a restoration depends on the condition of the object and the required work. A quotation is prepared based on working hours and material cost. Before the restoration begins, you will receive a clear cost estimate including a price range. If it becomes apparent during the restoration process that more work is needed than initially estimated, you will be informed.
The value of your object is best determined by a specialized appraiser, antique dealer or auction house. Although as a conservator I have some experience in estimating object values, for an accurate valuation I always recommend a professional appraisal. If desired, I can have this performed for you through a licensed appraiser.
The typical duration for a restoration in the studio is approximately 8-12 weeks from the time of delivery. For reproductions of historical tiles, the timeframe is around 12-16 weeks. The exact timeframe can vary depending on the nature and complexity of the assignment. For urgent projects, it is possible to achieve a shorter delivery time for an additional fee. The timeframe is always determined in consultation with the client.
A restoration will always be somewhat visible because 'cold materials' are used. This visibility is generally subtle and often only noticeable to someone with knowledge of the restoration. Before the treatment begins, the intended final result is discussed and established. Depending on the nature of the object and the purpose of the restoration, there are various options for filling and retouching objects. These range from minimal interventions with structural fillings in neutral colors to integrated retouches where partial or complete surface decoration is replicated. The goal is always to make the restoration as harmonious as possible with the original object.
If you have a broken object, it is important to handle it carefully to prevent further damage. Store the object in a safe, dry place and avoid using it until the restoration is complete. Contact an expert for advice on the best way to have the object restored.
In the case of a new break, such as when an object falls, it is crucial to carefully collect all fragments, no matter how small. Store these in a sealed container or box to prevent further damage. Do not attempt to repair a valuable object yourself with commercial adhesives, as this can further damage the object and make it more difficult to remove the adhesives later on. Contact an expert for professional advice and restoration to ensure the object is handled correctly.
After restoration, it is important to maintain the object in an appropriate manner to preserve its condition. Follow the recommendations of the restorer regarding the care and handling of the object. This may include storing or cleaning the object in a specific way to prevent future damage. If you have any questions about aftercare, do not hesitate to contact me for further guidance.
